How Impeccability Works
Both intrinsic & extrinsic factors can influence, to greater & lesser extents, whether or not one will sin.
Theosis is precisely about growing this intrinsic influence. It’s about our developing saintly dispositions as we autonomously & progressively grow in likeness to Christ. The higher one’s degree of saintliness, the greater will be the role played by intrinsic factors in one’s impeccability.
The more one’s impeccability will have been influenced by extrinsic factors, the less one will have been afforded (or will have taken advantage of) those autonomous & progressive growth opportunities. By extrinsic factors, for example, we might include a person having been infallibly placed in one set of circumstances versus another.
It’s because such efficacious gracings can involve such sacrifices of autonomy that I consider them to be extraordinary. They would be gifted exceptionally in order to optimize our corporate growth in divine intimacy. When they are gifted, they are ordered – not just individually, but – communally.
Eschatologically, the hierarchical degrees of saintliness may reflect – not just divine predilections, but – varying degrees of intrinsic & extrinsic influence on each person’s impeccability.
In no case will efficacious gracings ever have involved dynamics repugnant to human freedom. All cooperations with every grace follow our free natural inclinations and are always to an essential extent synergistic, non-necessitated & deliberative.
Each person’s freedom begins as relatively perfect & will everlastingly become increasingly perfect as proportioned to each’s unique capacities & fitted to each’s special dispositions. It’s a journey from mere abundance to an ineffable superabundance.
This has been another attempt to explicate my Phenomenology of Divine Poofs (extrinsic interventions).
