When I've imagined original beatitude, I've associated it w/our essential logoic potencies as have been determinedly reduced by a singular existential act of enhypostasization, by which our primary natures are immutably fixed as microcosmic imagoes Dei.
Those primary natures sufficiently & abundantly gift us existential orientations or natural inclinations adequate to the transcendental imperatives of theophanic expression & beatific experience.
By sufficient & adequate, I do mean to refer to a satisficing dynamic vis a vis value-realizations (graced imitations of relations) of various participable (not direct access, but energetic or graced) aspects of divine processions (i.e. personally distinct modes of manifestation of our trihypostatic God).
So, it's about our breathing the Holy Spirit, sanctifying grace or divine energeia.
I've not thought this thru with rigor. For that I'd delve into Lonergan's heuristics. I employ, instead, a simple heuristic of Bernardian Love as I gleaned from Merton's lectures. That "ladder" progresses upward toward "authenticity as self-transcendence."
To wit:
love of self for sake of self;
love of others (God, others, cosmos) for sake of self;
love of others for sake of others;
love of self for sake of others.
Now, the church has always taught that imperfect contrition suffices for forgiveness. That's to recognize that an erotic & enlightened self-interest suffices as a cooperation w/grace worthy of a vision beatific.
In my view, that immutable, operatively graced, erotic inclination has been irrevocably gifted, naturally per logoi. It gets us to heaven & to an abundant well-being that's inviolably intrinsic to each imago Dei. It constitutes the original beatitude that Maritain speculated could putatively be restored - apokatastenai.
It seems reasonable enough to me that the agapic, self-transcendent aspects of Bernardian Love & a Lonerganian Hierarchy of Values (vital, social, cultural, moral & religious), both culminate in love & being true to oneself.
This agapic dynamic, I contend, refers to the co-operatively graced superabundance that we're invited to instantiate via the habitus of our virtuous, secondary natures, theotically & synergistically per our tropoi.
Vis a vis our theophanic expressions & beatific experiences, this is the "divine stuff" (things around God) that expands the aesthetic scope of our theophanic expressions & beatific experiences. It remains in infinite potency to the cumulative value-realizations of the co-operations of a divine, concrete, social Absolute that's ever on the move. It's a universally extended, tropic invitation to grow into God's likeness, hence both eternally apocatastatic & epectatic.
This is to finally suggest that divine participations can be beatifically experienced & theophanically expressed in graded eternal participations, per co-self-determined degrees of glory.
While some may even be elected & predestined to become as luminous as a blazing helios, I shall be happy to have escaped my temporal existence as through a purgative fire & give off a heavenly glow as the votive candle I aspire to be. That others may grow holier than me, Lord, grant me the grace to desire it, provided I become as holy as You will.
Many of these theological sensibilities have been nurtured in me from parental experience. If my children & grandchildren attain, minimally, an enlightened self interest in our relationship, at least loving me for the sake of themselves, well, that would be & has been delightful! Watching them grow, superabundantly, toward further authenticity --- is more rewarding than I could ever have imagined. Cutting them off eternally for any reason whatsoever --- are you kidding me?
