The Franciscan Arguments Against Natura Pura – the primacy of Christ & illuminationism
I’ve only ever appropriated Rahner’s supernatural existential & de Lubac’s surnaturel, contemplatively, in the context of Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises.
Otherwise, I situate them over against Garrigou-Lagrange’s natura pura using – not Kantian, Hegelian or Heideggerian categories, but – Scotus’ Absolute Primacy of Christ (contra Cajetan) & Bonaventure’s Illumination (contra Aquinas).
I’m not saying that Transcendental Thomism is wrong or even suggesting I understand it. I’m just saying the Franciscans (using arguments even anticipated by Maximus) had long ago rather readily dispensed with any concrete natura pura.
