For me, this semantic grammar reflects the same meta-heuristic that we use to interpret (mine meanings from) reality's emergent novelties, all up & down the great chain of being, despite its manifold & multiform intractable onto-aporias.
Concretely, we can't give robustly explanatory quidditative accounts of reality's origins - quantum, cosmic, life, sentient & sapient (symbolic language), so, speculatively, can employ various competing quantum interpretations, cosmogonies, philosophies of mind, etc, employing them as fruitful exploratory heuristics.
The epistemic takeaway being - even unable to disambiguate all of it's vague possibilities or specify all of its general probabilities in terms of whatness, we can observe a given entity's thatness (existentially), thisness (irreducibility or haecceity, incl whoness) & various hownesses (per univocal denominative qualifiers, participles, adjectives).
It has meta-ontic implications, too. If novel entities do emerge in such a way that they, at least, appear to interact in supervening ways, they must do so per Jordan Daniel Wood’s hypostatic rubric. Vis a vis natures or whatnesses, novel entitative hypostases must somehow be indifferent & irreducible to while otherwise inseparable from those whatnesses. And when they are holistically & mereologically related to novel wholes or composites, they mustn’t be hypostatically obliterated.
This meta-heuristic, even when ontologically agnostic, remains epistemically holistic, fallibilist, realist & pragmatic (in its theory of knowledge not truth). It's why those who, in their anxiety to annihiliate metaphysics would inadvertently also do away with our highly speculative theoretic sciences.

When it comes, then, to mining meanings & heuristic fruitfulness, the deepest of the depth dimensions of our human experience require us to go beyond mere speculative heuristics, axiologically & normatively. In my view, that means we must - not only respond to the postmodern critique, but - better attend to the existentialist, personalist, relational, affective & aesthetic aspects of our reality, including a mystical theology as a science of love.
